Synthesis of a New Benzoate Plasticizer for Polyvinyl
Method of benzoate plasticizer preparation. A three-necked round-bottom flask equipped with a thermometer and a reflux condenser with a Dean–Stark attachment was charged with 310.10 g of the alcohol fraction and 97.70 g (0.8 mol) of benzoic acid.

Benzoic acid
Precursor to plasticizers. Benzoate plasticizers, such as the glycol-, diethyleneglycol-, and triethyleneglycol esters, are obtained by transesterification of methyl benzoate with the corresponding diol. These plasticizers, which are used similarly to those derived from terephthalic acid ester, represent alternatives to phthalates.
Velsiflex Plasticizer | Benzoate Based, Non-Phthalate
Velsiflex plasticizers are an environmentally friendly option for formulators looking for an alternative to commodity and specialty phthalate esters. Velsiflex is a non-phthalate plasticizer and uses benzoic acid as a key raw material. It is therefore a more environmentally-friendly product versus traditional commodity phthalates that have been
- Can plastic waste-extracted phthalate plasticizers be converted into benzoic acid?
- This study demonstrates the catalytic conversion of real plastic waste-extracted phthalate plasticizers into benzoic acid (BA), via a one-pot hydrolysis–decarboxylation process based on inexpensive Cu 2 O and H-beta zeolite, in water as a safe and environmentally benign solvent.
- When will a benzoic acid & plasticizer expansion project start?
- The investment supports growing market demand for benzoic acid, non-phthalate plasticizers and benzoate preservatives, the company says. If final approval for the expansion project is granted, construction will begin later this year and continue into 2016, with a planned start-up in the fourth quarter next year.
- What is an example of a benzoate plasticizer?
- Therefore, BA was esterified to form isononyl benzoate (IB) as a representative example of benzoate plasticizers, employing sulfuric acid as a conventional Brønsted acid/esterification catalyst (Fig. S13 in ESI †).
- What are benzoic acid and sodium benzoate used for?
- Benzoic acid and sodium benzoate are used as antimicrobials in a wide range of products, from food and personal care to industrial applications, including plastics.
- How is carboxylic acid isolated from phthalate plasticizers?
- Following the full conversion of the phthalate plasticizers into BA (reaction conditions as outlined above in Fig. 3 with an extended reaction time of 24 h), the carboxylic acid was isolated from the reaction mixture via a liquid–liquid extraction followed by recrystallisation (experimental details can be found in the ESI †).
- What's going on with a benzoic acid plant in Rotterdam?
- It will augment the group's benzoic acid production unit, adding capacity to process an additional 100 000 tonnes/year of high-purity material and supporting output from the company's two reactor trains in Rotterdam. This project is the group's seventh multimillion-dollar investment in recent years at its Rotterdam site.
