Does anyone have any experience of using plasticizers
Does anyone have any experience of using plasticizers in polypropylene? I'm thinking of using a plasticizer to reduce Tg in random copolymers of PP, typically injection molding grades....

Plasticizer
Substantial concerns have been expressed over the safety of some polymer plasticizers, especially because some low molecular weight ortho-phthalates have been classified as potential endocrine disruptors with some developmental toxicity reported. [9]

Unfortunately plasticizers can also have some harmful effects on thermal, electrical, chemical, and mechanical or optical properties. Heat, humidity, light, and UV aging are generally negatively influenced. Fire behavior depends on the chemical natures of the involved plasticizer and recycled material.
Plasticizer - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
Plasticizers may comprise 15–50% of a PVC formulation. By changing type and amount of plasticizer, properties can be tailored to requirements. Increasing plasticizer concentration increases flexibility, decreases tensile strength, and reduces hardness (e.g., Figure 1 ).
- Why are flexible plasticizers limited in their end use?
- Most flexible plastics are limited in their end use because plasticizers are generally low-to-medium MW chemicals with measurable vapor pressure below their boiling points.
- Is human exposure to plasticizers a hazard?
- Human exposure to certain plasticizers has been debated recently because di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, used in medical plastics, has been found at detectable levels in the blood supply and potential health risks may arise from its chronic exposure.
- How do plasticizers affect the environment?
- Human and environmental exposure to plasticizers can occur in different ways. The most prevalent causes of these exposures include point-source pollution from plasticizer manufacturing or plastic formulation, and leaching, migration and evaporation of plasticizers.
- How to improve the health and environmental issues concerning plasticizers?
- The use of environmentally-benign plasticizers is another way to improve the health and environmental issues concerning plasticizers. Among the number of factors that decide the feasibility of a substance to be used as a plasticizer, toxicological information is an increasingly important one.
- What is a plasticizer used for?
- This particular plasticizer is characterized by good migration resistance and high thermal stability. Plastic moldings, cable sheathing and cords with a wide range of hardness and elasticity can be produced using this plasticizer. 4.1.3. Alternative plasticizers
- Are plasticizers compatible with polymers?
- As has already been discussed, the plasticizing efficiency and thermodynamic compatibility of plasticizers with polymers depend on a number of properties such as chemical structure, MW, functional groups, alkyl chain length and diffusion and solubility parameters of the plasticizers.
