Novel plasticizer for acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR
NBR was supplied from Lanxess AG Germany with an acrylonitrile content of 32%. High abrasion furnace (HAF) carbon black N-330 was supplied from Transport and Engineering Company, Alexandria, Egypt. All the rubber ingredients zinc oxide, stearic acid, DOP and tetramethylthiuram disulphide (TMTD) were of commercial grade.
An ecological plasticizer with outstanding performance in NBR
Lanxess has developed the Mesamoll plasticizer that demonstrates significant performance in nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR). The Mesamoll plasticizer is a phthalate-free alkane sulfonic acid ester, which is not included in the SVHC list of hazardous materials.
Influence of Bio-Based Plasticizers on the Properties of NBR
Some additives used as plasticizers pose a health risk or have inadequate material properties. Therefore, research is going on in this field to find sustainable alternatives for conventional plasticizers. In this paper, two modified bio-based plasticizers (epoxidized esters of glycerol formal from soybean and canola oil) are of main interest.
Green additives ecological plasticizer for outstanding
The application of rubber seed oil (RSO) and epoxidized RSO (ERSO) as a plasticizer in acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) was studied using RSO and ERSO with different levels of epoxidation....
Synthetical modification of plant oil‐based plasticizer with
The obtained plasticizer was claimed to have less migration and can be utilized up to 50 phr. In a previous reported work, 13 epoxidized ester of glycerol formal from soybean oil was investigated as plasticizer in NBR. Here, the migration of the plasticizer from the plasticized NBR sample to unplasticized NBR sample during short-term thermal
- Is NBR a plasticizer?
- Despite application, the field varies with the proportion of ACN content and molecular weight of the polymer. It has excellent resistance to petroleum products over a wide temperature range [ 3 ]. NBR typically contains extender oil that works as a plasticizer.
- Can bio-based plasticizers be used in the compounding of NBR vulcanizates?
- 4. Conclusions The use of bio-based plasticizers (EESO, EECO), a conventional plasticizer (TDAE), and a synthetic plasticizer (Mesamoll ®) in the compounding of NBR vulcanizates were studied. It was shown that bio-based plasticizers can advantageously be used as processing aids instead of conventional oils.
- Do bio-based plasticizers affect acrylonitrile–butadiene rubber properties?
- In this paper, two modified bio-based plasticizers (epoxidized esters of glycerol formal from soybean and canola oil) are of main interest. The study aimed to determine the influence of these sustainable plasticizers on the properties of acrylonitrile–butadiene rubber (NBR).

- Does plasticizer content affect the tear strength of NBR vulcanizates?
- Variation of strain at the break with plasticizer content for NBR vulcanizates. The tear strength values (see Figure 6) show a significant increase in the case of bio-based plasticizers, especially at higher plasticizer loading. In the case of TDAE and Mesamoll ®, the tear strength remains almost constant at around 8 N/mm.
- Which plasticizers are compatible with NBR?
- So, plasticizer is added as an extender, which not only helps to reduce the mixing time and fulfills modern industrial demand by reducing the production cost but also improve the flexibility of the finished product. Due to the polar nature, several plasticizers like phthalates, adipates, and epoxidized soybean oil are compatible with NBR. 3
