DoP versus Asio native – what are the differences/similarities?
The key difference between ASIO native and DoP is the way DSD signals are identified and how many bits are available per sample. ASIO has a mechanism separate from the data to signal DSD and uses 32 bit per PCM sample. For DoP the DSD marker is embedded in the PCM data stream and only 24 Bits are used of which 8 Bits are used as the DSD marker.

- Can a DAC play DSD up to 256?
- My DAC says it can play DSD up to 256. It is connected to a 2017 MacBook Pro via USB, and it is feeding the signal to a THX AAA 789 amp. Nevertheless, to test if my setup can handle 256, I downloaded both the free 256 sampler and the 256 version of Raizes. They both played fine, so I decided to buy the 256 Honeck Bruckner 9.
- What does non native DSD mean?
- Non native DSD is supposed to mean DSD that's been altered by conversion to PCM , or possibly multibit DSD (point of contention), which is what many forms of playback/processing do to DSD. This has nothing to do with the DSD file being sent as DoP or not.
