Derivatives of jojoba oil as plasticizers for vinyl polymers
Summary Ten maleinated jojoba oil derivatives were screened as plasticizers in a standard polyvinyl resin formulation and as softeners for Buna-N rubber. Three of these, the methyl and butyl esters and hydrogenated methyl esters of maleinated jojoba acids, were comparable to the reference standard, DOP, as primary plasticizers for the vinyl resin.
Derivatives of Jojoba Oil as Plasticizers for Vinyl Polymers
investigate further the applicability of jojoba deriva- tives to the plasticizer field, a number of maleinated derivatives of jojoba oil have been prepared and tested both as plastieizers for polyvinyl chloride-poly- vinyl acetate copolymer and as softeners for nitrilc rubber (Buna-N).

Other polymer systems that use plasticisers include acrylic polymers, polyamides, polyolefins, polyurethanes, certain fluoroplastics, and elastomers. 7 Particularly, plasticisers are commonly used

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plasticizers derived from biomass resources (vegetable oil, cardanol, vegetable fatty acid, glycerol and citric acid) have been widely studied to replace petroleum-based o -phthalate plasticizers.
- Can jojoba oil be used as a green plasticizer?
- In a previous study, Moataz et al. used jojoba oil as a green plasticizer for PLA. They demonstrated that the elongation at a break point and Izod impact strength improve from 3.0 to 74 % and 12.9 ± 0.7 to 23.8 ± 1.6 kJ m −2 with the addition of 7 mass% jojoba oil respectively, resulting in a toughened PLA [ 15 ].
- Does jojoba oil crystallize poly(lactic acid)?
- Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) containing different contents of jojoba oil (3 and 7 mass%; namely PLA-3JO and PLA-7JO), as natural plasticizer, was prepared via melt compounding. The nonisothermal crystallization behavior of PLA in the presence of jojoba oil was investigated from the glassy state.
- Does jojoba oil crystallize PLA?
- The nonisothermal crystallization behavior of PLA in the presence of jojoba oil was investigated from the glassy state. The obtained results revealed that the rate of crystallization and degree of crystallinity increased with increasing the content of jojoba. The nonisothermal crystallization kinetics was analyzed by the Avrami–Jeziorny model.
- Does jojoba affect the Cold crystallization behavior of PLA plasticized?
- The nonisothermal cold crystallization behavior PLA plasticized with jojoba was studied using differential scanning calorimetry. The results showed that the cold crystallization temperature ( T p) of the PLA decreased, while the melting peak did not significantly change with increasing the jojoba content.
- What makes jojoba oil unique?
- Linearity and close-range composition are probably the two outstanding properties that give jojoba oil its unique characteristics. Jojoba oil molecules contain two double bonds separated by an ester bond.
- What is the chemical composition of jojoba oil?
- The chemical composition of jojoba oil is unique in that it contains little or no glycerin and that most of its components fall in the chain-length range of C 40 C 42. Linearity and close-range composition are probably the two outstanding properties that give jojoba oil its unique characteristics.
