Synthesis of a novel flame retardant based on DOPO
An intumescent flame retardant (DOPO-DAM) containing phosphorus and nitrogen was synthesized viaa two-step process and then, it was incorporated into waterborne polyurethane to serve as a reactive flame retardant for preparing flame-retarded WPU (FR-WPU).
Mechanical, Thermal Stability, and Flame Retarding Properties
In this study, an antidroplet flame retardant system based on FRPET (phosphorus-containing copolyester) is constructed with DOPO-POSS (polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane containing DOPO) as an additive flame retardant. It is demonstrated that DOPO-POSS has good dispersibility at a lower amount. When the amount of DOPO-POSS is 9 wt %, the residual char of DOPO-POSS/FRPET at 700 °C increases
The non-halogen flame retardant epoxy resin based on a novel
The flame retardant epoxy resins include DOPO–DGEBA and ODOPB–DGEBA are two kinds of typical DOPO series resins which have been widely researched till now. For comparing the flame retardant behaviors of HAP–DOPO, DOPO and ODOPB on themosets, we prepared DOPO–DGEBA/DDS (sample F6) and ODOPB–DGEBA/DDS (sample F7) thermosets containing 1
A novel inherently flame-retardant thermoplastic polyamide
The as-prepared flame-retardant TPAE exhibits good flame-retardant performance as well as good mechanical properties and thermal stability. The LOI value of the TPAE with only 4 wt% DDP content achieves 28.0%, and its elongation at break and tensile strength are still maintained at about 400% and 20 MPa, respectively.
DOPO/Silicon/CNT Nanohybrid Flame Retardants: Toward
The thermal stability and flame-retardant properties of EP/FR-CNTs composites are improved, which is attributed to the good dispersion of DOPO/silicon/CNT nanohybrid. The cone calorimeter results demonstrate that FR-CNTs can reduce peak heat release and the release of toxic gas effectively compared with EP/CNTs and EP/CNT/FR composites.
- Is Dopo a flame retardant?
- As a commercially available compound, 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) exhibits strong potential to develop effective flame retardants for epoxy resin due to its reactive group of P H and dominant function in gas phase.
- Is EAD a flame retardant?
- Multifunctional-efficient flame retardant EAD was designed for epoxy resin. 0.186 wt% P-loading endowed EP with UL-94 V-0 rating and good thermal stability. Thermosets exhibited improvement in tensile strength and impact resistance. DOPO-conjugated structure gave EP transparency and UV-shielding performance.
- Does chemical structure of Dopo-Fr affect thermal stability and fire retardancy?
- The effect of chemical structure of DOPO-FRs on thermal stability and fire retardancy of modified epoxy composites is discussed, and the flame-retardant efficiency is evaluated according to the minimum phosphorus loading to pass the V-0 rating in UL-94.
- What is a flame retardant?
- One flame retardant is TAD with the bridge bond of three methylene, and it endowed DGEBA/DDS thermoset with UL-94 V-0 rating and 33.5 % LOI value at the 1.24 wt% phosphorus content.
- How do phosphorus based flame retardants (Dopo-FRS) can be prepared?
- With the presence of tautomeric equilibrium of phosphorus in solution (in Scheme 2), DOPO-based flame retardants (DOPO-FRs) can be prepared via nucleophilic and electrophilic reaction. The various substituents around phosphorus would result in different flame-retardant effect by changing the pyrolysis route of DOPO. Scheme 2.
- Can EAD be used as a flame retardant for epoxy resin?
- Furthermore, the incorporation of EAD also endowed epoxy resin with good transparency and UV-shielding performance. As a whole, EAD can be used as a multifunctional flame retardant for epoxy resin, and this work may propose a potential direction for the development of high-efficient flame retardant in the future.
