Plasticizer contamination in LCMS samples - WKB11497 - Waters
FIX or WORKAROUND Decant a small amount of formic acid or the additive into a clean glass beaker (not from a dishwasher). Draw up and discard three full volumes (depending on the tip size) of formic acid/additive. This should effectively flush the tip, removing plasticizers and molding agents.

chloride, determine the mass spectra of methylene chloride and the plasticizer, and use information from a mass spectral library to confirm the identity of the plasticizer. PRE-LAB ASSIGNMENT 1. Calculate the molecular weight of the plasticizer’s parent peak M and the mass of the fragment O=C(CH2)4C=O. Predict the masses of the fragments
How can I get rid of plasticizer in GC-MS sample? - FAQS.TIPS
The attached image shows chromatograms from the same FAME sample run three times on our GC-MS. As seen, additional peaks show up if running the sample several times. From the MS spectra the additional peaks seem to be plasticizers. If I heat the column to max for 30 min and then rerun the sample the peaks are gone.
GC-MS Sample Preparation | Thermo Fisher Scientific - US
Sample preparation methods for GC-MS. Gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) sample preparation is performed on smaller and more volatile samples including environmental pollutants, industrial byproducts, food contaminants, pesticides, and metabolites of illicit and designer drugs. These molecules are more challenging to ionize and
- How do we quantify plasticizers in MDS?
- To quantify plasticizers in MDs, we performed a chloroform-based solvent extraction method suitable for extracting plasticizers in the MD’s matrix, as previously described by Bernard et al. .
- How are plasticizers identified in unknown samples?
- All plasticizers were identified in the unknown samples by using the function “multiple ions ratio to quantify trace”. This ratio is based on the comparison of the relative abundance of each ion chosen for each plasticizer with the SIR mass spectrum recorded for a standard. One quantifier ion was chosen for the quantification.
- How can we lower the limit of plasticizer quantification?
- The use of cubic calibration curves and the optimization of the analytical method by an experimental plan allowed us to lower the limit of plasticizer quantification.
- Does plasticizer release a PVC MD into a simulant solution?
- We then tested the developed method on 32 PVC MDs used in our hospital and evaluated the plasticizer release from a PVC MD into a simulant solution during a 24 h migration test. The results showed a predominance of TOTM in PVC MDs accompanied by DEHP (<0.1% w/w), DEHT, and sometimes DEHA.
- What are the alternative plasticizers for PVC MDS?
- This resulted in the commercialization of PVC MDs plasticized with the DEHP alternative plasticizers tri-octyl trimellitate (TOTM), di- (2-ethylhexyl) terephthalate (DEHT), di-isononyl cyclohexane-1,2-dicarboxylate (DINCH), di-isononyl phthalate (DINP), di- (2-ethylhexy) adipate (DEHA), and Acetyl tri- n -butyl citrate (ATBC).
- How do you transfer a liquid sample into a GC system?
- Transfer the sample into the GC system in a way that does not change the sample through reaction or adsorption onto surfaces and ensures the sample entering the GC is optimal for the gas chromatography process, that is, it is delivered as a narrow band onto the head of the column, see Chapter 2. 1.2.1 How Do I Store My Liquid Samples?
