A new approach to PVC-plasticizer interaction by using a Tg
The interactions between Poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) and Plasticizers, responsible for polymer plasticization, can be detected by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). A new approach to PVC-plasticizer interaction by using a Tg
CONCLUSIONS By applying different Tg concentration power equations for the two ranges of PVC-plasticizer compositions, separated by the cusp (characterized by a critical plasticizer content, w~c), an excellent correlation of the experimental data can be obtained. The cusps indicate changes of the PVC-plasticizer interaction.
Synthesis of novel plasticizer ester end-capped oligomeric lactic acid
According to the results of tensile tests, the elongation at break of PVC plasticized by 50 phr EOLs reached 725.5%, indicating its superior mechanical properties. The result of TGA showed that the thermal stability of PVC plasticized by EOLs was as comparable as that of PVC plasticized by DOTP or ATBC.
Study of PolymerPlasticizer Interaction by
Line widths of 〉CHCl show a sharp increase due to the strong hydrogen-bonding interaction between the 〉CO (ester) group of DOP and 〉CHCl of PVC with various concentrations of DOP. The spinlattice relaxation time T1(C) also confirms the presence of a strong interaction due to hydrogen bonding.

In addition to grafting PVC with molecules resembling traditional plasticizers, grafting chains or single groups that can break the secondary interactions between PVC chains and function as internal plasticizers at the same time as they increase the intermolecular interactions between the PVC and the plasticizer could be an attractive approach, especially if these groups can be attached by
- Does plasticizer concentration affect TG?
- We find the average Tg determined from fast dynamics decreases substantially with increasing plasticizer concentration, consistent with volumetric Tg obtained from the temperature dependence of density.
- Does a plasticizer lower the Tg of PVC?
- Since the purpose of a plasticizer is to increase the chain mobility, Tg has been demonstrated to be a good indicator of the polymer structure and eficacy. We showed that DEHP lowers the Tg of PVC by almost 100 K, from between 350 and 400 K to between 250 and 300 K. DBS and DHS were the only other plasticizers able to lower the Tg Figure 3.
- Can covalent attachment of plasticizer molecules to PVC chains avoid migration?
- Meanwhile, there is no migration for internally plasticized PVC. Therefore, it can conclude that the covalent attachment of plasticizer molecules to PVC chains can avoid migration. Fig. 11. Degree of migration of the internally and externally plasticized PVC. 4. Conclusion
- Which Green plasticizers are used for internal plasticization of PVC?
- In this study, the tributhyl citrate (TBC), propargyl ether tributhyl citrate (PrTBC), oleic acid and poly (dimethylsiloxane) diglycidyl ether terminated (PDMS, Mn ≃ 800) have been used as four different green plasticizers to internal plasticization of PVC.
- How to overcome plasticizer molecules migration problem in soft PVC materials?
- The internal plasticization of PVC in which the plasticizer molecules have been covalently bonded to the polymer structure and are a part of the PVC matrix is an effective strategy to overcome the plasticizer molecules migration problem in soft PVC materials .
- What is the internal plasticizing mechanism of self-plasticizing PVC materials?
- Internal plasticizing mechanism of self-plasticizing PVC materials. Kilpatrick and Clark (among others ) developed the lubricity theory for plasticization. In this theory, molecular lubrication is happening by the aid of plasticizer, which facilitate the movement of the chains over each other when a force applied to them .
