Action Mechanism of Superplasticizer in Consideration
It has been reported that changes in concrete fluidity with time are affected by SP molecular structure. However, the mechanisms of fluidity change is still not completely clarified. It is therefore necessary to study the interaction between cement and SPs. This study focuses on the mechanism of SP action, especially during early hydration.

Superplasticizer - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
Superplasticizers are additions that allow a given degree of workability to be obtained at a reduced water/cement ratio. The ratio may be reduced by up to 20% in the presence of, for example, sulphonated naphthalene formaldehyde condensate, which is absorbed at the solid/liquid interface.

- What are superplasticizers used for?
- Superplasticizers (SPs) are widely used in various concrete made in Japan to decrease the amount of water required for cement mixing. The use of hot-weather concrete is increasing. The number of interstitial cement phases, such as the aluminate and ferrite phases, will be increased to treat waste and byproducts in the cement industry.
- What is the effect of superplasticizers?
- Effect of superplasticizers Adsorption of SPs prevents cement particles from coming too close to each other. Keeping particles apart reduces the magnitude of the attractive van der Waals forces and consequently also the magnitude of the maximum attractive forces that have to be overcome for a suspension to flow.
- Do superplasticizers work in alkali-activated materials?
- Abstract This work evaluates the application effect and mechanism of superplasticizers (SPs) in alkali-activated materials (AAM). Naphthalene superplasti-cizer (NS), aliphatic superplasticizer (AS) and poly-carboxylate superplasticizer (PS) were selected, and three aluminosilicate precursors and two alkali acti-vators were used to prepare AAM.
- Why is the type and dosage of superplasticizer important?
- The type and dosage of superplasticizer are very important to enable the most stable fluidity. For different dosages of superplasticizer in relation to cement mass, the variation of flow time is presented in Fig. 8.12. Figure 8.12.
- What is the flow of superplasticizer on concrete?
- The flow of 0.5% superplasticizer on concrete is illustrated in Fig. 8.10. Concrete without this admixture appears stiff, while concrete containing the superplasticizer flows like a liquid . Figure 8.10. Effect of superplasticizer on concrete: (A) without superplasticizer and (B) with superplasticizer.
- Do sulfonated Superplasticizers have steric repulsion effects?
- In addition, it is recognized that sulfonated superplasticizers (PNS and PMS) have predominant electrostatic repulsion effects and that for polyacrylate superplasticizers the steric repulsion effects that predominate.
