Plasticizer for poly(vinyl chloride) from cardanol as a
The miscibility of the cardanol derived plasticizers with PVC was interpreted by means of the Hansen solubility parameter theory. It was shown that the evaluation of the interaction radius, only based on the theory of additivity rule, can represent a very useful tool to predict the miscibility between plasticizers and PVC.
Cardanol derivatives as PVC plasticizers. II. Plasticizer
Abstract A series of cardanol derivatives prepared in a preceding study 1 are evaluated as PVC plasticizers. These include butyl anacardate (3), cyclohexyl anacardate (4), 3‐ (pentadec‐8′‐enyl)phenyl acetate (5), 3‐ (8′,9′‐diacetoxypentadecyl)phenyl acetate (6), and 3‐ (8′‐epoxypentadecyl)phenyl acetate (7).
Cardanol derivatives as innovative bio-plasticizers for poly
Cardanol acetate (CA) can be used as secondary plasticizer, in addition to conventional plasticizers, for the production of soft PVC. Nevertheless, the migration of CA is very high compared to the migration of conventional phthalate plasticizers for PVC [20] , mainly due to the relatively low compatibility between the PVC and the relatively
Use of cardanol derivatives as plasticizers for PVC: Cardanol
Cardanol (Card) is one of the main organic element (about 30 wt%) in cashew nut shells. It is a phenol derivative comprising of a linear unsaturated hydrocarbon as an elastic and hydrophobic long...
Mechanical and durability properties of soft PVC plasticized
The potential of cardanol derivatives as PVC plasticizers was recently demonstrated. In particular, it was shown that acetylation of the cardanol hydroxyl group improves the compatibility with PVC. Therefore cardanol acetate (CA), can be used as secondary plasticizer, in addition to conventional plasticizers, for the production of soft PVC [2].
- Are cardanol derivatives effective plasticizers for poly-vinylchloride PVC?
- Cardanol derivatives have been proven to be efficient plasticizers for poly-vinylchloride PVC . Cardanol is an industrial grade oil obtained by vacuum distillation of ‘‘cashew nut shell liquid’’ (CNSL), which represents a by-product of cashew nut shell industry.
- Which natural plasticizers are derived from cardanol acetate?
- Two natural plasticizers derived from cardanol (CD), cardanol acetate (CA) and epoxidized cardanol acetate (ECA), were synthesized and characterized by 1 H NMR and 13 C NMR. The plasticizing effects of the obtained plasticizers on semi-rigid polyvinylchloride (PVC) formulations were also investigated.
- Can cardanol acetate be used as secondary plasticizer for PVC?
- Cardanol acetate was therefore used as secondary plasticizer for PVC to produce medium scale samples for physical and mechanical characterization. The soft PVC obtained using a mixture of DEHP and cardanol acetate showed thermal and mechanical properties comparable to those of PVC obtained with neat DEHP. 2. Materials and methods

- Is epoxidation of cardanol a viable secondary plasticizer?
- Future work will be directed towards the evaluation of the stability of properties of soft PVC obtained using CA as secondary plasticizer, as well as to the development of equally environmental and health friendly processes for epoxidation of cardanol molecule, which could allow the production of highly effective and PVC compatible plasticizer.
- Is cardanol acetate a plasticizing agent of poly (lactic acid)?
- This work is aimed to study the suitability of a bio based compound, cardanol acetate (CA), as plasticizing agent of poly (lactic acid) (PLA). Compared to other natural derived plasticizers, cardanol acetate is not obtained from food crops but as a by product of cashew nut extraction.
