On 23 March 1967, two CIDG companies from the camp engaged a reinforced PAVN company approximately 10 km east of camp. 20 PAVN were killed in this action along with another estimated 40 killed by air strikes.

By 1967, nearly 400,000 troops were in-country, with more to follow. The American military consumed prodigious amounts of supplies. Added to the normal needs for ammunition, food, clothing and fuel were the luxuries considered necessary to keep the citizen-soldiers happy.
