Evaluation of some eco‐friendly plasticizers for PLA films processing
Five Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) film samples were analyzed to study the gas barrier behavior, thermal stability and mechanical performance for food packaging application, and thermal properties such as Tg and χc, and mechanical properties were remarkably improved with surface PLA modification. 15 PDF
Evaluation of some eco‐friendly plasticizers for PLA films processing
Different types of nontoxic biocompatible plasticizers/lubricants, both obtained in the laboratory, as well as commercial ones, were employed to modulate physical and mechanical properties of PLA. Melt compounding by means of a Brabender mixer led to obtaining of homogeneous materials.

Evaluation of some eco‐friendly plasticizers for PLA films processing
ABSTRACT This study was conducted as a first step in order to obtain green materials for food packaging by using an eco-friendly bioplastic, polylactic acid (PLA), and nontoxic plasticizers.
Title: A Review on Plasticizers and Eco-Friendly Bioplasticizers
Citrate plasticizers have good miscibility, biodegradable, resistant to leaching and water and have legal use as additives. The demand for bioplasticizers is reported to increase from 887...
- Are bio-based plasticizers for polylactic acid sustainable?
- Research on bio-based plasticizers for polylactic acid (PLA), an environmentally friendly and biodegradable polyester, has advanced due to the increasing focus on sustainable materials.
- Which bio-based plasticizers are used in PLA film compositions?
- Singh et al. used two different bio-based plasticizers, TEC and glycerol triacetate (GTA), and two naturally obtained fillers, halloysite nanotube (HNT) and chitosan in PLA film compositions intended for packaging applications .
- What is the current state of bio-based plasticizers in PLA applications?
- In summary, the current state of bio-based plasticizers in PLA applications reflects rapid development and significant growth prospects. Future research should focus on bio-based plasticizers with synergistic effects such as plasticizing, toughening, antimicrobial, and anti-migration properties.
- Which plasticizer is used to improve the mechanical properties of PLA?
- (32,34,37)Specifically, to improve the mechanical properties of the PLA, TEC, a nontoxic, eco-friendly, and natural plasticizer, has been widely used. (37−42) In recent years, natural cellulosic fibers have been combined with polymers for the production of low-cost and high-performance materials.
- What materials are used to make bio-based plasticizers for polylactic acid?
- The raw materials for the synthesis of bio-based plasticizers for PLA primarily include vegetable oils, citric acid, oleic acid, sebacic acid, adipic acid, succinic acid, cardanol, isosorbide, and other small molecules (Fig. 3). Fig. 3. Origin and structural composition of bio-based plasticizer molecules designed for polylactic acid.
- Can Plasticizers improve the transparency of plasticized PLA films?
- Pasha et al. investigated plasticized PLA films with different plasticizer additions, including ethyl triacetate (TA) and PEG. The results demonstrated that plasticizer incorporation improved the transparency of the films while reducing light transmission compared to pure PLA.
