DOA6 is probably better for learning characters. Better tutorial and there is a quest game mode where you need to win fights by performing certain actions. I prefer DOA6's story. DOA5 felt like an endless journey of people fighting because they bumped into each other.

It's just not the highest quality game, but everything works well enough. On the other hand, there are a couple out-of-combat things that DOA does very well. For example, it has the best frame data display in training I've seen so far. As I said, punishes for dumb mistakes are brutal.
