Triacetin as a Secondary PVC Plasticizer | SpringerLink
In this study, a glycerol derivative plasticizer (triacetin—TAG) was tested as a secondary plasticizer for PVC. TAG was added to PVC formulations from 10 up to 20 phr. The increase of the plasticizer content had a great influence on the properties of PVC samples.
Simple and Rapid High-Performance Liquid
( Table II) Sample stability results showed that the RSD value of triacetin was 1.10%, indicating that triacetin samples have good stabilities within 24 hours ( Table III ). Effectiveness of triacetin and triethyl citrate as plasticizer
Abstract. The main objective of this work was to investigate the applicability of two natural based plasticizers (triacetin (TRI) and triethyl citrate (TEC)) in two polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) with similar molecular weight but different hydrolysis degree (88% and 99%). The PVA and plasticizers were mixed by solvent blending method and the PVA

- Is tri a good plasticizer?
- A few researchers incorporated TRI or TEC as plasticizer in polymers such as PLA [7, 8] and PVC with reported reduction of glass transition temperature and melting temperature suggesting improvement in flexibility and processibility.
- What is the thermal stability of triacetin?
- According to the thermal stability of triacetin, Peak 1 is related to the triacetin evaporation. The mild weight loss of starch ester powder and unplasticized film in the first step was attributed to the water evaporation process. Table 2 summarizes the Onset and peak values of thermal events in detail. Fig. 5.
- Does triacetin plasticize starch esters?
- In previous researches, triacetin has been proved to display effective plasticization for starch esters (Bonacucina et al., 2006, Fringant et al., 1998, Nejad et al., 2010, Nejad et al., 2011, Volkert et al., 2010).
- How does triacetin evaporation affect thermal stability?
- As the triacetin evaporation was related to the destruction of molecular forces, the thermal stability of triacetin thus changed along with its interaction with starch ester molecules. Large proportion of triacetin molecular forces was replaced by the interaction with starch ester molecules when these two components were mixed.
- How does triacetin affect the thermal stability of a film matrix?
- Comparatively, the enhanced ether bond and the restriction from crystalline regions on the mobility of the amorphous chain consequently improved the thermal stability of the film matrix. The interaction between triacetin and starch ester was essential to film forming but unexpectedly lowered the triacetin stability.
- Do starch ester films with different triacetin contents decrease thermal stability?
- TGA (a) and DTG (b) curves for starch ester films with different triacetin contents. Interestingly, the thermal stability of triacetin significantly decreased (seen from Onset and peak values) after being mixed with starch ester.
