ASTM International - ASTM D2383-19 - Standard Test Method
1.1 This test method defines the conditions for the exposure and qualitative evaluation of plasticized poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) compounds for plasticizer compatibility under humid conditions. Change in appearance is used for judging compatibility. 1.2 The text of this test method references notes and footnotes that provide explanatory material.
ASTM International - United Arab Emirates Chapter
The ASTM International UAE Chapter teamed up with Thomas Bell-Wright Consultants and ARUP Fire Safety Engineering Consultants on this free webinar focused on fire testing of building spandrel-panel assemblies. Also featured was subject matter expert, Tony Crimi, long-time member of ASTM Committee E05 on Fire Safety. February 24, 2025
Plasticizers - ASTM International
Plasticizers are liquids of molecular weight greater than that of solvents—to limit volatility—but are not solids, such as alloying polymers, etc. It should be noted that cross-linked resinous coatings significantly reduce plasticizer loss due to diffusibility and volatility.
ASTM International - ASTM D3465-21 - Standard Guide
Due to the need to volatilize the plasticizer, only monomeric plasticizers having definitive boiling points and a molecular weight less than 1000 Daltons, such as dioctyl phthalate, are applicable to this guide. 1.2 The values in SI units are to be regarded as standard.
Standard Practice for Compatibility of
The internal migration of plasticizer will continue and when a deficiency of plasticizer occurs at the compressed area spewed plasticizer will be reabsorbed. It is possible for certain plasticizers to spew and be reabsorbed quite rapidly. Less compatible plasticizers are capable of spewing early and continuing to spew throughout the test.
- What are ASTM plastics standards?
- ASTM's plastics standards are instrumental in specifying, testing, and assessing the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of a wide variety of materials and products that are made of plastic and its polymeric derivatives.
- What is the ASTM International UAE chapter?
- The ASTM International UAE Chapter brings together key leaders and engineers in the UAE focused on the built environment. The chapter provides a forum for these technical experts and others to network and to participate in standards-related activities. Chapter membership is open to all interested individuals and organizations within the UAE.
- Which plasticizers can be volatilized?
- Due to the need to volatilize the plasticizer, only monomeric plasticizers having definitive boiling points and a molecular weight less than 1000 Daltons, such as dioctyl phthalate, are applicable to this guide. 1.2 The values in SI units are to be regarded as standard.
- What is a plasticizer used for?
- Plasticizers are primarily employed in heavy gage coatings and/or when improved toughness is required for industrial, automotive, and appliance applications. Plasticizers function by reducing the glass transition temperature of the resin to a point below its application temperature.
- What impurities can be found in monomeric plasticizers?
- 5.3 Impurities potentially found in monomeric plasticizers include alcohols, dibasic acids, and monoesters. 1.1 This gas chromatographic guide covers a procedure for extending the range of purity determination of monomeric plasticizers beyond that now determined by other methods.
- What are plastic standards?
- These plastic standards allow plastic manufacturers and end-users to examine and evaluate their material or product of concern to ensure quality and acceptability towards safe utilization.
