Polymers | Special Issue : Green Plasticizers for Polymers - MDPI
The scope of this issue ranges from synthesis of green plasticizers, enhancement of physical and rheological properties, migration of plasticizers upon disposal, relationships between plasticizers and human health, and life-cycle-assessment. Particular emphasis will be placed on the design and evaluation of new green plasticizers, using the
Natural-based plasticizers and biopolymer films: A review
Plasticizers are an important class of low molecular weight non-volatile compounds that are widely used in polymer industries as additives [1]. The primary role of such substances is to improve the flexibility and processability of polymers by lowering the second order transition temperature, the glass transition temperature ( Tg ).
Title: A Review on Plasticizers and Eco-Friendly Bioplasticizers
A novel environmental soybean oil‐based plasticizer, epoxidized glycidyl ester of soybean oil fatty acids (EGESOFa), was synthesized and characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR),...
Current Status of Plasticizer Research | SpringerLink
Accelerated elimination of toxic plasticizers and the invention of non-toxic candidates have become an inevitable trend. Chinese producers should largely increase the R&D of new catalyst and separation technologies to push next-generation cost-effective, safer, eco-friendly plasticizers to the market. 4. Application-Driven Market Specialization
Developments of biobased plasticizers
The development and utilization of biobased plasticizers derived from epoxidized soybean oil, castor oil, cardanol, citrate, and isosorbide have been broadly investigated. The synthesis of...
- Is green polypropylene a viable alternative to plastic waste?
- Additionally, the green polypropylene market, which offers a more eco-friendly alternative to traditional polypropylene, is projected to grow at a CAGR of 5.6% from 2023 to 2031, reaching a market value of £51.8 million by 2031. However, the inconsistency of post-consumer plastic waste remains a significant challenge for recyclers.
- Can plastic waste materials be used to make greener composites?
- The plastic waste materials could be considered low-cost and renewable feedstock for the preparation of greener composites. This would be a high-value waste plastic output (Salwa et al. 2021). Compostable plastic and biodegradable items, such as food packaging bags, can help improve waste management and organic recycling (Ilyas et al. 2021b).
- What are plasticizers used for?
- In order to optimize the properties and application range of polymers, as the largest scale of the plastic additives, plasticizers are used extensively in the modification of polymers [ 1 ]. Concretely, over the past decade, the regional global production of plasticizers has been around 6.4 million tons per year [ 2, 3 ].
- Which plasticizer is most commonly used in the world?
- Phthalates, especially dioctyl phthalate (DOP), are among the most widely used plasticizers globally, comprising approximately 80% of the market share [ 1, 4 ].
- Is recycled polypropylene a thermoplastic?
- Since recycled polypropylene (recycled PP) is classified as a thermoplastic material, most reused waste PP or recycled PP-based materials fall within this category. Figure 6 summarizes the major processing strategies for mixing/compounding, melting, and fabricating in producing recycled polypropylene-based composites.
- Can Green fillers be used in plastic composites?
- A wide range of green fillers from animals, plants, minerals, and recycled goods, whether naturally occurring or manmade, have been used in plastic composites to reduce costs while improving strength, functionality, and biodegradability.
