SPC vs. WPC Vinyl Flooring: What's the Difference?
WPC is short for Wood Plastic Composite and its core comprises of recycled wood or wood-like materials, PVC, plasticizers, calcium carbonate, and a foaming agent. Like SPC, the WPC flooring is made of five layers, namely; UV protection, wear and tear layer, printed vinyl layer, WPC core, and the backing padded layer.

DTDP plasticizer. Jayflex DTDP plasticizer is the highest-molecular-weight phthalate plasticizer, providing greater performance at high temperatures. It is the preferred plasticizer for automotive cable applications and THHN/NMB electrical wire insulation. Learn more.
The influence of environmentally friendly plasticizer on the
With fast growth in the global market share recently, wood plastic composites (WPCs) are emerging as green composite materials that combine the advantages of wood and thermoplastics, for example, long-term performance, cost-effectiveness, shape flexibility, and small carbon footprint (Ashori 2008; Naumann et al. 2012).
Eastman Plasticizers for PVC
Food Contact Status compliant – Eastman DOP plasticizer (Bis (2-Ethylhexyl) Phthalate) is a light colored, low volatility, odorless liquid. It is the most widely used all-purpose plasticizer offered by Eastman for use with PVC resins. It features good stability to heat and ultraviolet light, a broad range of compatibility, and excellent
- What is wood plastic composite (WPC)?
- Wood plastic composite (WPC) is a new type of composite material that is made up of natural plant fibers, such as wood, bamboo and hemp, and thermoplastic, such as polyethylene (PE) [1–3], polypropylene (PP) [1,4], polyvinyl chloride (PVC) [5,6], and so on. It combines the favorable performance and cost attributes of both wood and plastics.
- What is WPC made of?
- The first WPC produced was a composite made of phenol-formaldehyde resin and wood flour for use as gearshift knob in automobile . Wood generally degrades at 220°C and thus it is important that the polymer used does not thermally degrade the wood component during thermomechanical processes.
- What are the properties of WPC resin?
- The produced WPC exhibit enhanced chemical and physical properties such as chemical resistance, temperature resistance, dimensional stability, light weight, and relatively high specific strength. The resin used in WPC has two main categories; thermoplastic and thermosetting.
- What materials are used in WPC?
- Different types of plastics such as HDPE, LDPE, PVC, PP, PVC, ABS, PS, PBS, PC, PES, PET, PF, PHBV, PLA, PPC, and UPE have been used as matrix in WPCs. Both virgin and waste plastic are used to fabricate WPCs. Wood fibers and other natural fibers such as wheat and jute fibers are used as reinforcement materials.
- Does multiple processing routes affect mechanical properties of WPC made of PVC?
- The effect of multiple processing routes on the mechanical properties of WPC made of PVC was investigated by (Petchwattana et al., 2012). They found that to obtain recycled WPC with sound properties and minimum cost it is recommended to use 30% of recycled WPC with 70% of virgin materials.
- How is wood plastic made?
- 5. Manufacturing of wood plastic composites In a typical wood plastic manufacturing process, resin, reinforcing fibers and are mixed together and formed under pressure and heat to produce a new composite material (Hietala, 2012). Resin is used as a matrix to grasp the fibers and to transfer the applied loads to the fibers.
