Effects of modified tributyl citrate as a novel
In this study, a novel environmentally friendly plasticizer, 12-14 alkyl ether tributyl citrate (AETBC), was synthesized via high-temperature ring-opening reaction, and its chemical structure was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1 H NMR) spectroscopy.
Tributyl Citrate (TBC) – Mamta Polycoats
Tributyl Citrate (TBC) is an excellent replacement for phthalates and adipates as it has a matching plasticiser performance. It is commonly used in cosmetics, food contact films, and articles of plastic, and it is a fast-fusing plasticiser for technical applications.

of TBC (triethyl citrate LD 50 about 7 mL/kg, vs. >30 mL/kg for TBC; see Section 5). This higher toxicity of triethyl citrate was attributed to its higher solubility in water. Another potential analogue is acetyl-tri-(2-ethylhexyl)-citrate, but this compound would hydrolyze to a 2-
Tributyl citrate as an effective plasticizer
The free volume was characterized using positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy observing its linear increase with TbC content. The permeability to water vapour, oxygen and carbon dioxide was determined and the obtained results were related to the changes in glass transition temperature, level of crystallinity of the samples and free volume.
- Why is tributyl citrate a new non-toxic plasticizer?
- Tributyl citrate (TBC) is a new non-toxic plasticizer, because it has good compatibility, high plasticizing efficiency, non-toxic and less volatile, weather resistance and other characteristics of broad interest, it is used as the preferred alternative green products in place of phthalic dimethyl esters.
- Is tributyl citrate soluble in water?
- Miscible with acetone, ethanol, and vegetable oil; practically insoluble in water. Tributyl citrate (TBC) is a good environmental plasticizers, lubricants. At room temperature, it is non-toxic, it has fruit flavor, it is colorless oily liquid. Boiling point is 170℃ (133.3Pa), flash point (open cup) is 185℃. It is soluble in most organic solvents.
- How do you store tributyl citrate (TBC)?
- 300 °C (lit.) 1.043 g/mL at 20 °C (lit.) storage temp. Store below +30°C. Miscible with acetone, ethanol, and vegetable oil; practically insoluble in water.
