Ciba-Geigy AG, Former Swiss pharmaceutical company formed in 1970 from the merger of Ciba AG and J.R. Geigy SA. Ciba started out in the 1850s as a silk-dyeing business and branched out into pharmaceuticals in 1900, by which time it was the largest chemical company in Switzerland.

In 2006, Ciba divested its Textile Dyes and Chemical Auxiliaries business in a sale to Huntsman Corporation. [8] In 2007, the company announced the intention to adopt the name Ciba Inc. The Ciba-Geigy Corporation From 1952-1990, the Ciba-Geigy Corporation (since acquired by BASF) operated a dye manufacturing plant in Toms River. Waste products from the plant were either stored in 47,000 drums or were treated and pumped through a pipeline to the Atlantic Ocean.
