In Silico Screening of Green Plasticizers for Poly(vinyl chloride)
Hence, there is a growing interest toward new, nontoxic, “green” plasticizers. In this work, the performances of biobased plasticizers including esters of succinic, levulinic, oleic, and adipic acids were compared in reference to the conventional plasticizer bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (aka dioctyl phthalate or DOP).

In Silico Screening of Green Plasticizers for Poly (vinyl chloride) Follow Posted on 2025-03-13 - 12:20 Phthalate derivative plasticizers used in poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) processing have been a subject of concern because of their possible toxicity. Hence, there is a growing interest toward new, nontoxic, “green” plasticizers.
Macrodiols Derived from CO2-Based Polycarbonate as an
The molecular weight can readily controlled in a range from 600 to 1,500 Da. The low-molecular weight macrodiols can be effectively used as an environmentally-friendly and sustainable plasticizer...
- Does poly (vinyl chloride) plasticize with soybean oil based polyol ester?
- Properties of poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) plasticized with different soybean oil based polyol ester as main plasticizer were evaluated and compared to that of traditional plasticizers dioctyl phthalate (DOP) and epoxidized soybean oil (ESO).
- Are green plasticizers derived from soybean oil a renewable resource material?
- Correspondence to Meng Zhang or Yonghong Zhou. Jia, P., Zhang, M., Hu, L. et al. Green plasticizers derived from soybean oil for poly (vinyl chloride) as a renewable resource material.
- What is poly (vinyl chloride)?
- As one of the five general synthetic resin, poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) has been widely used as building materials, electronic materials, packing materials and commodity in several fields of industry, packing and agriculture . General, plasticizers are added into PVC to improve the thermal, mechanical and flame-retardant properties .
- Can soybean oil based polyol ester plasticizers improve thermal stability of PVC blends?
- It has been proved that thermal stability of PVC blends could be improved by soybean oil based polyol ester plasticizers. Plasticizing effect of pentaerythritol derived soybean oil polyesters on PVC is better than that of DOP, ESO, and glycerin derived soybean oil polyesters.
- What are green non-toxic plasticizers?
- With increasing of the degree of national environmental policy and export bans of Europe and America, more and more green non-toxic plasticizers are developed and applied in the PVC. Among them, ESO, one of green non-toxic plasticizers recognized by FDA, has received much attention during the past several decades .
- Why are plasticizers added to PVC?
- General, plasticizers are added into PVC to improve the thermal, mechanical and flame-retardant properties . Nowadays, there are more than 500 kinds of plasticizers in the market. Among them, phthalate plasticizers dominate the main commercial plasticizers . These phthalate plasticizers are derived from petroleum resources.
