Migration of some plasticizers through cured novolac epoxy resin
The diffusion coefficients (D) of these plasticizers to cured novolac epoxy resin sheets have been determined with the help of their migration at infinite time (M-infinity) and Fick's Second Law. The data indicate that D as well as M-infinity decrease as the molecular weight increases from P-2 to P-8.

Migration of some plasticizers through cured novolac epoxy resin
(i) Migration through the sheet of cured novolac epoxy resin is considered uni-directional. (ii) Plasticizer migration takes place under transient conditions with a constant diffusion Coefficient(D). (iii) The concentration of plasticizer on the faces 60INDIANJ.ENG. MATER. SCI., APRIL 1998

- Are amine-cured epoxy novolac and bisphenol F degradation mechanisms unexplored?
- In the present study, the largely unexplored degradation mechanisms for amine-cured epoxy novolac (EN) and bisphenol F (BPF) epoxy resins are investigated at lower limits of HPHT.
- What is the curing agent used in the novolac epoxy coating?
- The first novolac epoxy coating (NE-CA) consists of novolac epoxy resin cured with cycloaliphatic amine curing agent. The chemical structures of the novolac resin and amine can be seen in Scheme 1. The coatings used in the experimental series were commercial formulations from Hempel A/S, Denmark, with details provided in Table 1.
- Does epoxy novolac corrode compared to bisphenol F at HPHT?
- Hydrocarbon interactions with epoxy novolac and bisphenol F coatings resulted in softening of their network at HPHT. Synergistic action of hydrocarbon and seawater resulted in an underfilm-corrosion for epoxy novolac and bisphenol F coatings. 5. Epoxy novolac exhibited superior seawater resistance compared to Bisphenol F at HPHT.
- How does methanol affect a Novolac epoxy coating?
- Methanol, with a higher affinity to the novolac epoxy, causes much greater swelling than water upon absorption. Among the solvents tested, methanol has the most significant effect on the physical coating degradation, followed by ethanol and water.
- Why are the two Novolac epoxy coatings similar?
- The two novolac epoxy coatings are similar due to the same novolac epoxy binder and the use of amine curing agents. This results in the formation of similar physical crosslinks and hydrogen bonds.
- What is a den 438-x80 epoxy novolac coating?
- Coating materials and application Using a DEN 438-X80 epoxy novolac resin (functionality, f, of 3.6) as the base and a mixture of DEAPA adduct and MXDA adduct amine hardeners as curing agents, an epoxy novolac (EN) coating was formulated.
