- Is DINP entrained in the products?
- DINP is likely entrained in the products; however, DINP may be available for exposure depending on the application of the end use products, such as if building and construction materials are cut prior to installation. EPA plans to further investigate processing uses of DINP during risk evaluation.
- How does EPA identify formulated products containing DINP?
- To identify formulated products containing DINP, EPA searched for safety data sheets (SDS) using internet searches, EPA Chemical and Product Categories (CPCat) (U.S. EPA, 2014) data, and other resources in which SDSs could be found. SDSs were cross-checked with company websites to make sure that each product SDS was current.
- How does EPA use DINP in a risk evaluation?
- EPA plans to further investigate processing uses of DINP during risk evaluation. Incorporation into an article typically refers to a process in which a chemical becomes an integral component of an article (as defined at 40 CFR 704.3) for distribution in commerce.
- When will EPA release the final risk evaluation for DINP?
- In January 2025, EPA released the final risk evaluation for DINP. EPA will now begin the risk management process to address the unreasonable risk presented by DINP. EPA will release a proposed rule under TSCA section 6 to protect workers from the identified risks.
- Will DINP be peer-reviewed?
- The draft risk evaluation for DINP will be peer-reviewed. Peer review will be conducted in accordance with EPA’s regulatory procedures for chemical risk evaluations, including using EPA’s Peer Review Handbook (U.S. EPA, 2015b) and other methods consistent with section 26 of TSCA (see 40 CFR 702.45).
- Does DINP pose unreasonable risk to human health?
- EPA used the best available science to prepare this final risk evaluation and determined, based on the weight of scientific evidence, that DINP poses unreasonable risk to human health. Under TSCA, EPA must initiate risk management actions to address the unreasonable risk.
