Superplasticizers and Other Chemical Admixtures in Concrete
and 1981, and to bring together representatives of the chemical admixtures, cement, and concrete industries to exchange information and delineate new areas of needed research. The scope of this conference was expanded to include chemical admixtures other than superplasticizers. Proceedings of the conference were published as ACI SP-119.
Chemical Admixtures - Cement
Superplasticizers, also known as plasticizers or high-range water reducers (HRWR), reduce water content by 12 to 30 percent and can be added to concrete with a low-to-normal slump and water-cement ratio to make high-slump flowing concrete.
SP-354: Superplasticizers and Other Chemical Admixtures
In October 2012, COIC sponsored the Tenth International Conference on Superplasticizers and Other Chemical Admixtures in Concrete in Prague, Czech Republic. More than 70 papers from all over the world were peer reviewed, and 33 were accepted for publication in the proceedings of the conference. The proceedings were published as ACI SP-288.
Superplasticizer
Superplasticizers ( SPs ), also known as high range water reducers, are additives used in making high strength concrete. Plasticizers are chemical compounds that enable the production of concrete with approximately 15% less water content. Superplasticizers allow reduction in water content by 30% or more. These additives are employed at the

- Does superplasticizer admixture affect rheological properties of self-compacting concrete?
- The influence of superplasticizers on cement paste, and on rheological and mechanical properties of self-compacting concrete, are also discussed. Moreover, the effect of dry extract of superplasticizer admixture on the behavior of concrete is included. 8.1. Introduction
- Are superplasticizers used in concrete?
- wa, ON, Canada on the use of superplasticizers in concrete. Sele ted papers from the conference were published as ACI SP-62.In 1981, CANMET again in association with the ACI, sponsored a second three-day International conferenc in Ottawa on the use of the superplasticizers in concrete.
- Does dry extract of superplasticizer admixture affect the behavior of concrete?
- Moreover, the effect of dry extract of superplasticizer admixture on the behavior of concrete is included. 8.1. Introduction Superplasticizers, also called high water-reducing admixtures, are synthetic, organic, and water-soluble products that significantly reduce the amount of water needed to achieve a given consistency in fresh concrete.
- What is the flow of superplasticizer on concrete?
- The flow of 0.5% superplasticizer on concrete is illustrated in Fig. 8.10. Concrete without this admixture appears stiff, while concrete containing the superplasticizer flows like a liquid . Figure 8.10. Effect of superplasticizer on concrete: (A) without superplasticizer and (B) with superplasticizer.
- What happens if a superplasticizer is added to concrete?
- When superplasticizers are added to concrete at the manufacturer’s recommended dosages, the compressive strengths and Young’s moduli of samples are equal to or greater than the corresponding compressive strengths and moduli of elasticity of samples cast from the normal mixture .
- Can superplasticizers improve self-compacting concrete workability?
- Self-compacting concrete workability is usually ensured by the addition of superplasticizers in the mixture. The effects of some properties of superplasticizers have been investigated by many researchers.
